A more connected, simple, and scalable Itaú
Itaú's design culture has evolved significantly during this period, and being part of this transformation was an important milestone in my career.
During my time as a Product Designer on Itaú Unibanco's Design System team, I participated in one of the bank's largest cultural and operational transformations: the consolidation of a unified design and development ecosystem that enabled the launch of 45 digital products and solutions in just one year.
With over 25,000 people involved in digital product development, Itaú needed a solid structure to ensure speed, consistency, and quality at scale.
My role was to strengthen this foundation, working on the evolution of the Itaú Design System and documenting visual and functional guidelines that now support dozens of processes and platforms, from Angular and React to Kotlin and Swift.
The challenge: scaling consistency and collaboration in a highly complex environment
Itaú is a century-old institution with a distributed operation and multiple product teams working in parallel. This diversity brought challenges in alignment, version control, and standardization across products.
Within the Design System team, I worked directly on organizing and documenting standards, creating guides, templates, and components in Figma that helped streamline collaboration between designers and developers.
These materials became the foundation for maintaining a seamless experience across the bank's entire digital ecosystem, for both retail and investment products.
Figma was the turning point. The bank adopted the tool as its official platform for creation, prototyping, and documentation, replacing fragmented workflows with a collaborative, open, and real-time versioning model.
I actively contributed to structuring Itaú Design Language libraries within Figma, ensuring that components were documented, accessible, and tested across multiple platforms.
This helped us increase adoption of the design system to approximately 80% of teams, resulting in direct productivity gains and a significant reduction in rework between squads.
The evolution of the design system and the consolidation of Figma's use transformed the way Itaú delivers value.
Teams began iterating and validating solutions in record time, with clearer workflows and fewer technical dependencies.
By 2024, this structure enabled the bank to launch more than 45 digital products, including tools such as PIX Credit, Goal Tracking, Save Money, and Password Consultation.
Furthermore, essential journeys such as login and onboarding were redesigned within the new system, directly impacting the increase in the Net Promoter Score (NPS) and users' perception of quality.
